Slovenian railway network receives digital twin: Siemens Mobility supplies TPS.plan

  • TPS.plan replaces existing planning software for infrastructure, timetable and train path management
  • Slovenske železnice is another European railway infrastructure manager to opt for TPS.plan

Hannover, March 6th 2024. Slovenske železnice, d.o.o. (Slovenian Railways) awarded a contract to Siemens Mobility for delivery, integration and maintenance of TPS.plan, a software developed by the Siemens Mobility subsidiary Hacon.

TPS.plan is an innovative software for timetable and train path management including a train path ordering module. Based on a microscopic representation of the rail infrastructure and considering various rolling stock and signaling characteristics it creates highly accurate timetables for strategic long-term planning, annual timetables and operational planning. It enables maximum utilization of the railway infrastructure and short-term adaptation of timetables to the needs of the train operating companies and the conditions on the route.

Matjaž Jelenič, CIO SŽ Group: “The main objective of the new solution is to integrate the ordering process and the construction of the network timetable, focusing on both micro-level planning and the efficient management of infrastructure constraints. TPS.plan optimizes the planning of train routes and schedules, contributing to a significantly improved travel experience for our 15+ million passengers in 2023. Slovenian Railways is dedicated to ensuring the highest level of passenger satisfaction. The new timetable planning solution will bring us one step closer to achieving our stated target of 25 million passengers by 2028.”

Frank Gerken, CEO of Hacon and Head of the TPS Business Segment within Siemens Mobility Software: "We are very pleased that Slovenske železnice have chosen TPS.plan to become their timetable planning system and we are convinced that it will contribute to increased operational efficiency and stability.”

Ales Napast, CEO of Siemens Mobility Slovenia: " A capable infrastructure and efficient planning form the backbone of rail transport and are an important factor in ensuring smooth and reliable operations for passengers."

TPS.plan can be used stand-alone or in combination with other products from Hacon’s TPS.suite, like TPS.live for live dispatching and network-wide optimization or TPS.trackworks for rail construction site planning and coordination.

TPS.plan is already being used successfully by other European customers, e.g. by SNCF Réseau (France) or Network Rail (UK).
