In collaboration with Siemens Mobility and Siemens subsidiary Padam Mobility, the Zeeland Province Public Transport Authority is set to transform public transport in the region by launching an advanced Demand-Responsive Transport (DRT) service. The system offers a flexible, efficient, and environmentally friendly approach, designed to meet the diverse mobility needs of residents and visitors.

Covering all 13 municipalities, the service started on February 17, 2025, with an initial rollout in Schouwen-Duiveland and will now be extended to the entire province.

Leveraging advanced technologies, including the integration of a journey planner provided by Siemens subsidiary Hacon, this dynamic system enables seamless multimodal trips as well as real-time updates via an easy-to-use app.

"For me, the key aspect of the initiative is that our mobility services transform the islands of Zeeland and bring communities together," said Emilio Tuinenburg, Head of Innovation & Digital Business at Siemens Mobility B.V. "I am very proud that we at Siemens Mobility make this possible."

Until now, on-demand public transport in Zeeland was only accessible to people with a Wmo indication (Social Support Act) and students. Thanks to the new DRT system, everyone can benefit from it now. This can promote tourism and motivate people to leave their own car at home more often. Once fully launched, the service's fleet will consist of around 300 vehicles.

"During the test phase, travellers were very satisfied with the service and the app. Together with our technological partner Siemens, we are gradually rolling out public transport in Zeeland," said Dirk Grevink, responsible for the introduction of public transport for flexible transport in Zeeland.

Martin Schulze Südhoff, Segment Head MaaS at Siemens Mobility Software, added, "The service offers all individuals easy, seamless and flexible access to sustainable transportation – and we're happy to contribute our technology to this impactful endeavor."
