Siemens Mobility and Hacon to Provide Integrated Mobility Solution for the RTC in Québec City

- One of the first regional Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform for a public transit agency in Canada
- Creating an integrated mobility ecosystem for the Québec City Metropolitan Area
- “One stop shop” for passengers across the city’s mobility modes
- Enhancing the passenger journey, seamlessly and sustainably
Siemens Mobility will partner with the Réseau de Transport de la Capitale (RTC) to introduce one of Canada’s first regional Mobility as a Service (MaaS) platform for a public transit agency. The technology for this innovative project is provided by Hacon – a Siemens Company. It will transform how citizens and visitors travel within the Québec Metropolitan Community.
Having recorded more than 31.5 million trips in 2024, the RTC provides a comprehensive range of services to facilitate urban mobility, including bus, bike sharing, and on-demand service. This project is the RTC’s next step to promote integrated mobility across the city of Québec and its neighboring communities, for optimized operators’ efficiency and user experience.
“Over the past few years, the RTC has given a major boost to the development of integrated mobility in Québec City. Just think of the àVélo and Flexibus services, which have enhanced and diversified the collective mobility offer in Québec City. The next step is to bring them together on a single, attractive and easy-to-use technological platform,” said Maude Mercier Larouche, President of the RTC.
"Unlocking the appeal of sustainable transport is all about ease and accessibility. By prioritizing a standout digital passenger experience and leveraging Mobility as a Service, RTC ensures every trip is effortlessly seamless. We’re proud to contribute our technology and provide passengers with a truly universal travel companion", adds Martin Schulze Südhoff, Global Head of MaaS at Siemens Mobility Software.
To bring ‘Mobility as a Service’ to life, also known as a one-stop solution, Siemens Mobility will integrate all the Québec City metropolitan community’s (CMQuébec) public, private and shared transport services into a single mobile application. A one-stop shop that allows passengers to plan, book, pay, and ride effortlessly, it will combine bus services offered in the CMQuébec region, adapted transport, the Flexibus transport-on-demand service and the àVélo electric-assist bike-sharing service, along with other services like car-sharing, ferries, taxis, private and public car parks, and charging points for electric vehicles.
This unified system will offer a streamlined and integrated solution for riders, considering the RTC currently has five apps that provide services for different parts of the travel journey (ticketing, a digital payment wallet, trip planning, paratransit support, and on-demand transportation services), along with their third-party bike-sharing app, àVélo.
A beta version of the app will be launched in Fall 2025, and new application features and services will be rolled out successively. As Québec City continues to grow, the app’s ecosystem is designed for new mobility providers to easily add their services.
By uniting services under a single platform, Siemens Mobility’s innovative MaaS solution for RTC will create new opportunities for operators while improving the overall experience for travellers. It’s a step forward in advancing smarter, more inclusive, and environmentally conscious mobility across Canada.
While this technology is one of the first of its kind for public transit agencies in Canada, Siemens Mobility has a proven track record in deploying MaaS solutions globally. In Spain and the Netherlands for example, Siemens Mobility has implemented nationwide MaaS platforms to seamlessly connect mobility providers across the country and streamline the travel process for passengers. MaaS is part of Siemens Mobility’s larger Software Suite X portfolio, an advanced software ecosystem built to address the complex issues of the mobility industry and enhance the passenger experience.
As Siemens Mobility and the RTC work together to implement this groundbreaking MaaS project, the Québec City Metropolitan Area will be more connected than ever.
