3,000th DB Regio Bus Drives with HAFAS Smart VMS

Hannover/Berlin Jul 29, 2015

Today, DB Regio Bus put the 3,000th bus into service that has been fitted with HaCon's vehicle management system HAFAS Smart VMS. The software gathers real-time data in the vehicles and guarantees even more comprehensive passenger information and reliable connections between bus and rail.

The 3,000th bus belongs to the fleet of Autokraft GmbH in Kiel (state of Schleswig-Holstein). The HaCon software is installed in the vehicles as a driver app either for smartphones or on-board computers. With HAFAS Smart VMS, the quality and appeal of traveling with buses is increasing significantly. It answers questions like, "Will my bus be waiting?" or "Do I have to hurry when changing buses?" in case a delay occurs.

HAFAS Smart VMS continuously compares the schedule with the real-time situation and transfers this information to customers, control centers and vehicles. This way, when delayed, bus drivers can ask other drivers to wait in order for their passengers to reach their connections. In Kiel, for instance, digital displays at bus stops present real-time arrival information. Furthermore, this data is accessible via and the DB Navigator, likewise in the journey planner of Schleswig-Holstein on

"HAFAS Smart VMS not only brings a driver app into the bus, it also links this app with the journey planner for passengers. This way, customer information becomes even more precise and we can help ensure that connections are made," says Michael Frankenberg, Managing Director at HaCon. Michael Hahn, Chairman of DB Regio Bus finds that "thanks to 'RBL-Light,' taking the bus is more reliable for our passengers. Now with 3,000 buses equipped, we are setting the standards higher for our customers and the market."

With approximately 615 million passengers in 2014 and 150,000 bus services daily, Deutsche Bahn is the largest provider in German bus transportation. More than 40 bus companies and holdings provide transport services throughout Germany.
